Discovering faith and friendship in new ways
At Kingsteignton United Reformed Church, we believe that church is more than what happens on a Sunday morning. Faith can be explored anywhere — over coffee, in nature, through film, in conversation, or simply by being together.
That’s why we describe ourselves as “one church of many gatherings.”
Our Explore Gatherings are small, welcoming groups that meet in different ways and places. Some are reflective, some social, some hands-on — all are about connection, curiosity, and community.
You don’t have to have all the answers (or any!) to take part. Just bring yourself and an openness to explore.
Current Gatherings
- Come As You Are Café – A relaxed Monday drop-in led by our minister with conversation and friendship over coffee and light nibbles.
- Sacred Sites Group – Exploring spirituality in nature and history through short walks and visits to local sacred places.
- Sacred Cinema Club – Watching and discussing films that spark thought, laughter, and conversation about life and belief.
- The Guild – A long-standing fellowship group offering talks, friendship, and shared purpose.
- Games Afternoon – A light-hearted time to connect over boardgames, bingo, and quizzes.
Each of these gatherings offers a different way to encounter community and faith — whether through reflection, learning, creativity, or simply spending time together.
Open to Everyone
Each of our groups are open to newcomers, and you don’t have to be a church member to join in. Many participants come from across the community, finding connection and meaning in ways that suit their interests and rhythms.
You’ll find more details, meeting times, and contact information for each group below — or on our Calendar and What’s On pages
Come As You Are Café
A relaxed Monday morning drop-in led by our minister with conversation over coffee and light nibbles. This is a great time to ask questions about faith or the church, or just to have a casual chat to get to know one another better. Occasionally, we bring out Conversations Against Mundanity, a relaxed, conversational game from our ecumenical partners in the Methodist Church, which helps foster interesting, fun, or exploratory space. Never a dull moment!
Sacred Sites Group
Looking for ways to connect your spirituality with the world around you, whether in nature or history? Our Sacred Sites Group might just be the gathering for you.
Every other month, we choose a local place to visit, often somewhere that has been a sacred place for pilgrims of some spiritual background.
While most of KURC events are not RSVP-based, for this one, we do need to know numbers ahead of time to plan for transport.
See the calendar for upcoming excursions and use the Contact Us page to reach out. We’d love to have you join us!
Sacred Cinema Club
Once every other month, we meet over lunch to watch and discuss a popular film, sparking delightful and enlightening conversation about life and belief.
We do not aim for explicitly Christian movies, rather, we want to think about how the popular stories we’re seeing in our culture might express or witness to values of our faith and belief. All of our films fall under our CCVI licensing.
A light lunch is served—usually a soup or stew with some bread or crackers, soft drinks, and something sweet.
Join us to see what it’s all about!
The Guild
A long-standing fellowship group offering talks, friendship, and shared purpose. This was once called “The Women’s Guild,” but we increasingly endeavour not to draw gendered boundaries here.
Twice per month, The Guild gathers to worship, hear interesting speakers, and foster community connections.
Some of our recent talks:
- “The American Presidency” by Revd Jessica Ashcroft-Townsley (our American minister)
- “Devon Air Ambulance”
- “Music Therapy”
- Recent holidays
- Poetry Readings
- Story sharing
Games Afternoon
A fun and engaging afternoon! This is typically attended by adults, but is open to all ages. Lately, we’ve been hosting bingo and a quiz during this time, but also have board- and card games available. If you have an idea for games to introduce during this time, our leaders would love your input!
